Music and Arts ministries

The Apostle Paul gave these words of encouragement for how the people of God should engage with one another in Colossians chapter 3, verses 15 and16:

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”

At Mt. Moriah Church, our music and arts ministries tries to live into that instruction. Under the direction of Doug Heflin, Creative Worship Director, Mt. Moriah has several opportunities for people to engage in music and arts for God’s glory (and they have a lot of fun doing it!)

Praise Team

The Praise Team is a small group of singers and instrumentalists who help lead worship each Sunday. Opportunities abound for youth and adults to participate. Guitarists, percussionists, keyboardists, and other instrumentation is welcome, as well as singers of all vocal ranges. Rehearsals are Sundays at 9:45am between the worship services.

Sanctuary Choir

The Sanctuary Choir is active during the academic year – September through June. They provide musical offerings during worship services and also prepare for other performances during the season. Singers aged 13 and up and any vocal range are welcome to join us. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm

Brass Ensemble

The Brass Ensemble includes players of any brass instrument – trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba, etc. They provide musical offerings at various points throughout the year, but especially in the Advent/Christmas and Easter seasons. Rehearsals are scheduled as necessary in preparation for services.

Special Productions

Mt. Moriah has a long history of producing special shows, many of which are original productions from the creative juices of our own Doug Heflin. Both singers and non-singers take part in these shows, and those with construction or decorative skills are also involved in building sets and creating scenes. The most recent production was Motionless, a wordless musical landscape that explores the boundaries of time and connections between God and humanity.

Stay tuned for the opportunity to be part of the next big idea!
